Ladies, You're Wrong...I Promise!

I recently had a life changing experience. I have spent countless years, up until now, choosing something completely wrong for me. I thought I was choosing the right thing, that it was working, but alas, I was WAY OFF!

Thanks to my decision to go into Nordstrom one day, I have now been corrected - and shocked. What is this shocking revelation?

I HAD BEEN WEARING THE WRONG BRA SIZE!

Ok, sounds silly, but ladies, I'd bet that 99% of you are wearing the wrong size for you. I was - big time! I had been wearing a band size that was 2 inches too big and a cup size that was...wait for it...4 sizes to small. My real letter (which I won't share online - not one for TMI on the internet) was shocking to me. And once I put the right size on, it was magical. I felt like I lost weight due to how nicely my clothes fit.

So, all of you ladies, go and get measured as soon as possible! Now, I wouldn't go to Victoria's Secret, or even Macy's. I've found they typically don't go about their sizing very well. Either go to Nordstrom or to a specialty bra store.

Lastly, a couple secrets I learned from the girl who fit me.

1) If your bra is fitting correctly, the band will be snug and parallel to your body. The middle front panel of your bra (in between your breasts) should be flush against with very very little gap and shouldn't move away from your body when you lift your arms.

2) Your straps are not there for support...they are only there to bring the cups closer to your body, not to lift! (Who knew?)

3) Watch out for the "doubleboobing" - when you have "extra" on the tops or sides not contained in your bra. If that is the case, your cup size is too small.

So, get ready to likely go up in your cup size and down in your band size. And go ahead and be ready, some of you, to forgo shopping at Victoria's secret...they only go to DDD...and many of you will be surprised that you are beyond that now.

Happy sizing!

One Year Ago Today

One year ago today I gave birth to this good and perfect gift from above, to an answer to many prayers, a creation knit together by God Himself - a healthy baby boy that we named Jackson David Folkerts.

After 28 hours of labor, I wasn't necessarily immediately in the mood to sing God's praises or shout for joy...I was too tired from shouting for an epidural (consequently another good and perfect gift from above). But in my heart, I was in love.

This year with Jackson has been such a wonderful time, full of challenges and successes, cries and laughs, worry and peace, fatigue and rest. Babies change so quickly in the first year. Each month is something new. And I feel I have grown as much or more than he has. I've learned patience. I've learned I'm more mushy than I thought. I've learned that some things aren't as important as I used to think they were. I've learned to laugh at the small stuff even more than I used to. I've learned to get and take advice from other mommy friends. So many things!

And Jackson...well, he really is a great kid. So fun, great sleeper, great eater, active, giggly, so so cute. We are so blessed to have him as part of our family. Happy birthday my little man! I love you!
